Quality means everything to the people at Atlantic Aqua Farms. Our customers deserve the very best.

Atlantic Aqua Farms is a fully integrated, rope cultured mussel farming and processing company, and we’re proudly the number one supplier of premium, live mussels in North America. Our food processing and farming practices are focused on environmental stewardship, food safety and quality.

SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CREDENTIALS

Canadian Cove Fresh Mussels are rope-grown and harvested in the pristine cold waters of Prince Edward Island. Our rope grown farming method is ranked in the green, best healthy choices category by Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program.

All NGO’s have ranked rope cultured mussels in their highest rankings since the farming process is not harmful to the environment. Our farming sites and practices are Certified Organic. Organic — it is as natural a process as you will find — no feed, pesticides, colorants, etc. are used in our mussel farming or processing facility.

Canadian Cove Fresh Mussels are also certified as an Ocean Wise Seafood Choice under the Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program. Atlantic Aqua Farms is the first mussel farming company in the world to receive the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Certification.

FOOD SAFETY

Our factory is operated under a HACCP based QMP food safety program. We are audited twice a year by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). We also receive an annual SQF 2000 third party food safety audit which is benchmarked to Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards. We are CTPAT registered in the USA.

FARM TRACEABILITY

Atlantic Aqua Farms has been using a computerized system called MAP INFO for about 30 years now. This system has our entire mussel farm network GPS plotted on our computer system — lease by lease, and line by line with GPS coordinates. All of our boats use daily logs to record all activity undertaken on our farms and we have full time visibility and 100% traceability of all activities undertaken on our farm network. We know when the mussel socks were deployed, all service work performed, and the age and quality of our product. This system was further upgraded a few years ago and all our captains were issued hand held GPS technology to further supplement the map info system they are using. This technology allows us to know where every mussel comes from.

Quality Focused People

We check samples from our farms before any product is harvested to ensure it meets our quality standards. These pre-harvested samples ensure we only pull product from the water when it is at its prime. Product is assigned a Lot number when harvested, and that Lot number follows the prodict through our processing facility and into the market so that all our customers can get full visibility all the way back to the lease where their mussels were harvested.
